My 2017 Empties

February 03, 2018

Hello everyone,

Today I am doing something which I have waited over a year to do. It takes me ages to finish something, so I don't think that I have ever done a blog post on my empties; I simply just don't have enough at the end of the month. So throughout 2017, I saved up many of my empties to show you all. And it still isn't that much. (to be fair sometimes I forgot and threw them away)

I don't think that I realised how many products I used throughout the year until I went through all of these. I tend to get lots of bath and beauty products for Christmas and my birthday, so many of these products are from sets.
I also realised I haven't worn a lot of makeup, because I literally have no empties. This was surprising, but in hindsight, I haven't worn a lot of makeup recently.

Possibility Lime Sherbet Shower Gel, Shampoo and Bubble Bath

I got this for my birthday last year from a friend and it was lovely- foamy, non drying and smelt really good. I didn't and wouldn't personally use it as a shampoo, but I have used it as a bubble bath and shower gel, and it was a really good product. I haven't tried anything from the Possibility range before, but I would probably compare it to the I Love... products, or Treacle Moon. Each of the bottles with different scents has a recipe to match the scent, but I am not really interested in making Lime Sherbet, haha. After searching online for a bit, I would say that they can be found at Savers, maybe Poundland or online. They are great to add to gifts, so I would recommend this, if you can find it, buy it! It usually costs about £1 or £2, so it is very inexpensive.

African Pride Shea Butter Miracle Moisture Intense Leave-in Conditioner

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT.
I bought this for around £4 from my local Beauty Supply Store and it is a brilliant product. It smells amazing and it made my hair feel incredibly soft. I have purchased more things from the range after this, because I really liked the product. It is paraben and petroleum free, and there are tons of natural oils, which make it so good for your hair. I have seen more expensive products which have petroleum and alcohol and products which aren't entirely good for your hair, but this is brilliant, honestly.

Cantu Shea Butter Leave in Conditioning Repair Cream

I feel like everyone who is into black hair care is into this product. It is like the holy grail of natural and relaxed hair bloggers everywhere. I bought this last year or the year before, and I thought that it was pretty good, but I would consider the African Pride to be a cheaper alternative. I haven't repurchased this, but I have considered it. I definitely do recommend it though, because it is a popular product which a lot of people like.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Daily Skin Therapy

I really like this product. It is a heavy oily cream which I only have to apply to my body once a day and your skin stays moisturised. I never had to reapply, unless I had washed my hands or something. One drawback is that you cannot apply this cream to your face, because it could break you out and will make you look very shiny. I would recommend a Palmer's Cocoa Butter Lotion for your face instead.

Avon Care Cocoa Butter Rich Cream

This was a light lotion style cream which I used for a while. It was okay, but I really like heavy cream, and this was more of a lotion. I ended up reapplying it quite frequently because my skin would dry out very quickly. I personally wouldn't repurchase, but if you are looking for a good cream which is pretty light, I would recommend it!

The Body Shop Strawberry (and Mango) Hand Cleanse Gel

I think that even if I am not rating this product for myself, everyone I know loved this, and that is probably why it finished so quickly. I had this and the Mango Hand Cleanse Gel/ Hand Sanitiser and everyone I know used to ask me for it! It was a little too bulky for a pocket, but it is great to pop in a bag and take with you to places. Very inexpensive too- I think that mine were 3 for 2 but they only retail for £2.50.

Vaseline Lip Therapy- Cocoa Butter and Aloe Vera

I have been doing research and I don't think that I will be repurchasing from Vaseline because the company isn't cruelty free. I really like Vaseline Lip Therapy, but I know there are alternatives which are better for the environment and for animals too. I am trying to become cruelty free and all natural with my beauty products, so I will be looking for a better alternative to this. However, Vaseline is a great product, its an essential and great quality.

Sweet Snuggles Bath and Body Set

I got this product for Christmas a while ago. There was a body wash, body scrub, body cream, body lotion and a bath sponge. The products smell absolutely amazing, like Caramel, Vanilla and Chocolate, which I must say is great for the Winter. In terms of the actual products, I wouldn't say they were my favourite. The Body Cream was very light and didn't do much for my skin and I wasn't the biggest fan of the Scrub. It was a great gift and I felt pampered with all of the scents, but the products within... a little disappointing. My favourite was the Body Wash, it came in a big bottle, which I appreciated, and it foamed and smelt good- you can't really go wrong!

The Body Shop Mango Shower Gel

Fearne Body Set

I really am not a big fan of this product. I got two sets of these- both for my birthday. The body scrub was incredibly abrasive and the scent wasn't particularly nice. I remember the first time I used the Body Scrub, it was really rough, as if someone had taken gravel off of a beach, mixed it with soap and stuck in a bottle. The Body Butter left a strange coloured sheen on my body too. The natural colour of it is white, so perhaps there was some sort of colourant in it. The packaging was gorgeous though- but the products inside, not so much. The Body Wash was okay, and that was about it. I definitely wouldn't recommend it.

Boots Extracts Rich Cocoa Butter Body Set

I got this gift set ages ago, maybe 2014 or something, but I only recently used it and absolutely loved it! The sugar scrub made my skin incredibly soft and hydrated. I would compare it to the Body Scrubs by the Body Scrub, as they leave your skin soft and hydrated once you use them. The body butter was okay, but it wasn't my favourite. I really like heavy creams, and it was a bit too light for me. I would have to reapply because my skin got dry before the end of the day.
They don't sell this set anymore, but you can purchase the Sugar Scrub here!

(5/5 for the Scrub, 3/5 for the Body Butter)

Superdrug Vitamin E Dual Phase Cleansing Oil

I really wanted to try out the whole Vitamin E range from Superdrug, but I started with this because I didn't want to buy it all and hate it, or the products end up breaking me out. The Dual Phase Cleansing Oil is a face cleansing oil, which is shaken before use to combine the oil and water mix. I liked the product- I thought it was good at taking off makeup and cleansing the skin. It cleansed and the oil moisturised my skin pretty well. I don't know if I would repurchase this though. There are other products I would rather try.

Wilko Blemish Balm

I bought this as a Spot Action Cream from Wilko, as I kept getting bad spots and they wouldn't go away. I would apply it to my T-Zone now and then, not every day, in hopes that my skin would stay clear. I don't think that it made a massive difference. I still got spots, and they didn't go away easily. It was a really cheap product, I remember buying it for only 90p or £1. Kind of disappointed though.
I think that it was quite helpful for cooling inflamed spots. Sometimes you get a spot which is kind of irritated, and I think the product did help to soothe them.

I know that I have used other products, like face wipes and bath bombs and body washes, but I no longer have the packaging, nor do I remember, unfortunately.
This blog post was incredibly long, but I hope that you enjoyed it! Please let me know if you have tried any of these products and your thoughts!

  1. I really love looking at people's empties! I think that I might do one next year. I also love how you're looking into cruelty free products this year and replacing alternatives. I'm trying to be a bit more cruelty free this year, so we'll see how that goes xox
