NaNoWriMo 2014- Why Rachel Failed NaNoWriMo + Tips!

As you probably heard from the title, yes, I did fail NaNoWriMo.

However... It was such an amazing experience and I have no regrets of not finishing it because it was so, so fun joining in with everyone.

My story got to 22, 365 words in the end. Which means it is my most developed story so far! The last story which I have written since I was eight is still on like 8,000 words approx. NaMoWriMo was quite stop and start-y for me because I was so busy, but I am so proud of my self!

And here are some tips for next year which I learnt from my mistakes;

  • Plan, plan and plan ahead! Start maybe in late August instead of 45 minutes before midnight on the first. It really will help you and you will probably use less prompts.
  • Go to the NaNoWriMo twitter feed. It's so helpful and you will love it! @NaNoWordSprints actually does have billions of prompts and things for you guys!
  • When you miss a day, try to catch up! That's definitely what I tried to do for the last days, No, I wasn't successful, but I was get 4,000-5,000 words in a day.
  • Follow Youtubers who are also doing NaNoWriMo. Katytastic is an amazing example. She really helped me along, but I was so busy at one point so I had to stop watching.
  • Participate in #10KTuesday if you're behind! It is on the final Tuesday and you have to write 10K in one day! I participated. It was so much fun! 
  • Enjoy yourself! Because I are crying and wallowing your face out, hitting your head on a counter in your kitchen, then you are so going to hate it and probably won't carry on!
  • Clear a little bit on time everyday to write. Or you'll be like me...

How I Live Now Review

How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I first read this book a while ago (probably a year or two ago) and I really didn't like it. I hadn't read anything by Meg Rosoff before so I had no idea about her writing style at the time, I hadn't seem any reviews and pretty much drove into this book blind because I had only really read the blurb. I didn't like it purely because of the lack of punctuation in it. I didn't do a review but I rated it 2/5 stars.
This week I decided I would reread it after remembering that Ariel Bissett really liked it and read it in Booktube-a-thon 2014 and I had also seen the movie on Netflix during the half term.

So I started to reread the book and it was pretty hard for me. I hated (and still am not a fan of) the whole 'Daisy doesn't punctuate' thing but I ended up getting more into the plot anyways so I ended up not particularly caring about the complete lack in punctuation. Also it was fairly simple to tell the difference between her talking and her writing.

The story POV is Daisy, as 15 year old American girl who has a hatred for her impregnated stepmother Davina. Her father has sent her to the British countryside to live with her Aunt Penn and cousins Osbert, Edmond, Issac and Piper at the worst possible time, for a third world war is the whispers on everyone's lips...
Her Aunt Penn is teaching a conference in Oslo and is unable to get back when war breaks out. People die and are separated and soon Daisy needs to truly fight for what she really wants.

In How I Live Now, our MC Daisy learns so much about life and love and war. She falls for someone society would deem flawed but she cares zilch about that. She is a really careless teenager in some aspects of the novel, but I really like her as a character because she is so headstrong. We see so much character development in her from the beginning and I love that she goes from a regular teenager to such a mature young person.

I also really admire Piper as a character too. At one point she loses almost everything but barely buckles under the pressure. She is really is a very, very special nine year old. She was so strong and encouraging to everyone she met.

Overall, I really liked Rosoff's book because of the river of teenage thoughts that literally seem like they are flowing out of Daisy's brain. I really enjoyed reading about everything that happened in the story but I don't think that I would reread this book again, purely because I have read it twice already and I barely ever re-read books.

So I have really been getting into the Christmas Jumper Trend recently. I don't know why, but they are just looking really fun and festive. So I decided that I am going to be taking three different Christmas jumpers from New Look and make outfits out of them!

This is the first jumper. It is the Fluffy Rudolph Christmas Jumper from New Look. It would go well with a burgundy skater skirt and a pair of ankle boots. I also added red lipstick and two nail polishes, so you could do a separate nail colour on your ring finger.

So, yup, this is the end, the end of November. That does make me really, really sad. However we are still getting closer and closer to Christmas, right? But right now I am here to tell you guys what books I read this month, so I hope you guys enjoy this!
November was quite a good reading month for me, I overall read 6 books! I am also reading Delirium right now, I am just over halfway through and its good!

1) Favourite underappreciated book?
Errrrmmmm, I think my favourite is probably going to be Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo. Before I got into YA I really loved Michael Morpurgo and this is such an amazing book. It really tells a story of a man who joined the WWI.
2) Most embarrassing literary crush? (Mine was Snuffkin from the Moomins, so the bar is pretty high guys)
I love Malfoy, I love Jace, I love Lucky, I love Chaol!  I don't know really, I don't really have embarrassing crushes, I am way more of a movie-book person. Sorry guys, so no juicy juicy bits from me!
3) Most re-read book?
Probably something by Jacqueline Wilson. I am gonna go for Sleepovers.
4) Favourite fictional place? (NOT HOGWARTS. C'mon, guys, be a bit more creative. I know I said I wanted to go to Hogwarts, but everyone says that so please ignore my hypocrisy.)
EEERRRRRRRRRRR, New Beijing from Cinder would be great, or the moon, or the Old Kingdom in that series, or Phillip Pullman's trilogy the Northern Lights, because I would love to have a daemon!
5) Top three childhood authors?
Roald Dahl, Jacqueline Wilson and errr, another person.
6) Book you're most excited about for 2015?
I don't really read new releases straight off the trolley, but Winter by Marissa Meyer is gonna be awesome. same with so many other books. Like the last book of the Raven Boys Quartet. I tend to read books when I can marathon them straight, so it is weird, y'know, when I can't.
7) Ultimate book-related place you've always wanted to go to?
I want to go on the whole Amy and Roger's Epic Detour, road trip, it looks like so much fun!

Never done it, ever! I read while travelling, and honestly, there is no book I won't read in public. I've also cried in public, so that is something about me...

I love sharing my opinions with other people, that is amazing!
11) Bonus question! Betcha weren't expecting that! But I am curious - if you write, what do you listen to music wise, if anything? It's Belle and Sebastian for me, although sometimes I can't focus over the music, so I just put ear plugs in "to listen to the silence" (B&S quote there, outta the blue.)
I listen to instrumentals of songs I don't know the words to, because when I know the words I absent-mindedly start to write them down as my brain cannot process two different sentences at once. It's weird but it's just the way I work... I guess! I write to silence, mainly.

November TBR and October Wrap Up!

So I know that this is coming a little bit late, however, I would still like to do my October Wrap Up qnd my new TBR.
I am already onto my fourth book of November, but I am not entirely sure how many I will read between now and December however I am hoping that I read at least another three.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I feel that it is quite hard to explain this book. But I really liked it!

It follows the story of Cath, one half of a twin and a shy, swotty, college student. She is used to, and completely enjoys sharing everything with Wren. Until one day Wren doesn't want to share. Cath is made to survive on her own through college, and ends up sinking ever deeper into her writing life as a famous fan fiction writer while her sister parties and drinks till morning.
While Wren bunks with her new friend Courtney, Cath must deal with her brash roommate Regan, and her many 'boy friends'.

My Opinion:
I really enjoyed this book, especially seeing the character development and the relationships forming between all the different characters. I really love Rainbow Rowell's writing, it is so quirky and upbeat.
My favourite character was Regan. I really liked reading about her and her personality.
She is such a bold, honest person, but she reminds me of people I know.

I think that the craziest thing I would do is possibly just go email crazy, I'd email the author, the publisher, reviewers... everyone! Until I get what I want, mwa ha ha!

NaNoWriMo Day, What, Five?

G'day mes amis! (That is French for friends!)

So basically I am writing this as Microsoft Word has just crashed on my laptop and I had nothing much to do apart from write. So now I am blogging!
I now have 5,504 words, which is a lot better, but still a lot behind. The NaNo website says that I will finish on what? December *d-d-doo... just checking...* December the 16th? That's pretty bad isn't it...
And by the way I feel as if I haven't actually posted anything apart from stuff about NaNo, so I have a couple of posts coming up, so watch this space...
I am gonna start writing again, so byee!

*35 minutes later*

So Word was saved... by me obviously hehehe. I just did my own half hour word sprint and did roughly 750 words. I used a prompt which completely doesn't match my story line but its not like I care.
My overall for Day 5 is...
So no, I am not ahead yet, but I will be soon, so please keep reading and I will keep updating, see you soon!

NaNoWrimo Blogs- Days 2+3+4

Okay, I am sorry!

I really, really, really wanted to post EVERY FRICKIN' DAY! I feel really bad that I didn't but I had

I was going to do new little posts but I just really didn't have time for those either, so sorry. I have some stuff for you today though,

I have to be quick with this because as you can see in my table I actually haven't written today. I want to get a couple thousand words today. So I'm waiting for the next word sprints. Also I have been on the NaNoWriMo web page and seen a couple of you doing your words and hitting the word counts which is so, so awesome! Carry on, it is so much better to be ahead than behind like me!

*20 minutes later*
So, okay new update now; just did a word sprint which was really good. I now have todays word count.

My unofficial Word Count for Day 4 is...

No weird facts today apart from the fact that I am eating apple pies and I have burnt a couple of taste buds and it really hurts :(

NaNoWriMo 2014- Day 1

Evening guys! I hope you all are well!

I hope guys had a great Halloween this year, and that November brings you glory, And closer to CHRISTMASSSSS YAYY!!

So, I mentioned that I was doing NaNoWriMo soon. And yesterday was the official first day of the National Novel Writing Month a.k.a. November!
This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo, I really wanted to achieve something great this year, and if I win that's a pretty big achievement! I joined with a couple of my friends who are also doing it for the first time too!

It was really exciting staying up late on Halloween just planning and chatting to people on Twitter and then going straight into NaNo Word Sprints at Midnight. I did two word sprints at midnight and then continued later that morning, I ended up doing some editing and 4 more word sprints as well.

My overall for Day 1 was...
So I am officially ahead of schedule slightly but I don't care, that's a good thing! I haven't separated anything into chapters yet. And of course I don't think my words are very good, but you know what? That's what December is for!

In terms of documenting I am just using Microsoft Word, because I have never seen a computer without it. And I have also attached my USB to my keys, so I can update the story daily.
This a table I made up Excel to document my sprints and writing in general! I think it is really useful if you do this x P.S. I use Microsoft Word and Excel Starter.

Weird Facts

Today I have eaten a lot of... Meat! I went to a Brazilian Meat Buffet with my family, uggh, I am still so full... Oh, and before that, Tortilla Chips :D
Today I have drunk a lot of... Pink Lemonade.

I have actually hosted a word sprint yesterday, which had a couple of people join in with me! Follow me on twitter to find out when I next do a Word Sprint!
Maybe next time I will share an extract of my novel!
