Little Red Riding Hood Costume D.I.Y. Hair, Makeup, Costume!

October 28, 2014

So guys with Halloween only a couple of days away how would you like to know how to portray your favourite character... Little Red!

For the D.I.Y. Cape, you will need a piece of fabric (I used a piece of red velvet, sized 1.5 x 1.5 metres), a needle and thread or a sewing machine, a tape measure or ruler, a pen, scissors and a wooden spoon (optional)

1. Get out all of your equipment
2, Measure into the material about 6cm and mark. However you can change this depending on how thick or thin you want the tie to be.
3. Mark all the way to the end of the fabric and cut.
4. Cut until you reach the end of the fabric.
5. Thread your needle or thread your machine
6. With the right side facing towards you, fold the piece of material in half so the right side is inside. Then start to sew along the edges of the material. Make sure to leave at least one of the shorter sides not sown.
7. Now turn the material inside out so that none of your stitching can be seen. Tip: use a wooden spoon to help you turn the material inside out. Just push the spoon into the sown shorter edge and continue pushing until the right side in seen coming out of the other side.
8.Now with the main piece of material choose how long the hood should be (I chose about 50cm) and mark on the parallel sides of the material. Then spread the tape measure along the marks so it is perfectly straight. Then mark every 8 cm.
9. Cut a small slit in the material on every mark.
10. Thread your tie/small piece of material through the slits, to create your cape!
Finished!

(I did these at different times so sorry the lighting is different!)
1. Put on your regular foundation and concealer. Same with your powder. I used my homemade chocolate BB cream and the Loreal True Match pressed powder in C9.

2. Use an eyeshadow primer if you have one then take a palette of your choice, I am using the MUA Hall of Fame eyeshadow palette.
I used the bottom left corner (shy) on the corners of my eyes, I also used the top second-along colour (bare) on my browbone.
On my eyelid I used China, Hustle and Tectonite but use natural colours because Little Red is young and innocent.
On my bottom lash line I used Titan.

3. Take a black eyeliner and make a small wing on each eye.
4. Then I took my Scandaleyes mascara and just put on one layer of mascara to give a slightly thicker and more voluminous look,
5. Next I used this sleek blush and put on a small amount, blending it in up to my temples for a younger look.
6. I primed my lips with a plain vaseline, because the MUA Lip Lacquer tend to dry out my lips after a while. Then I applied the MUA Lip Lacquer in Reckless.
7. If you have an eyebrow pencil, gel and/or brush then use them to give your eyebrows a thicker look, this will make you look younger! I already have thick eyebrows so I only brushed mine.
Finished!

For Fashion:

Wear a white or navy dress, preferably the older looking the better.
Then if you have a basket that is a great addition, if you don't, just grab a trick or treat basket.
For shoes wear a pair of flats or ankle boots. If it is cold you could also wear sheer tights like me!
Also don't forget your cape!

I hope you enjoyed reading this, it was really fun for me.
If you make this, use the hashtag #candcblog for me to see it!

Rachel Reads Anime! #1- The Earl and the Fairy Vol. 1

October 27, 2014

Hey guys!

So today is the first and newest installation of...
Rachel Reads Anime!
Basically, a lot of my friends read anime, and I was really tempted to try it out. Also, one of my local libraries has a large selection of anime books so I decided to try some!

At first it was really hard, because manga/anime books read from right to left, a.k.a backwards for me. And that was really tricky because I have never read anything that is like that. The first few tries were stressful, and I ended up with migraines having to sleep before being able to try again. But that's just because I am really strange.

I must say that these sorts of novels are very fast reads, I read this one in about 6 days, while reading 2/3 other books as well! I am very surprised because I didn't devote much time to reading this book, but it was fast and gripping!

Now this is my Review!

The Earl and The Fairy, Vol. 01 (The Earl and the Fairy, #1)The Earl and The Fairy, Vol. 01 by Mizue Tani
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lydia Carlton is borne to a fairy doctor. She has the ability to do things others cannot. After her mother passed, people perceived her as crazy, and strange.

When her father sends message for her to come and visit in London, she is very happy. However, on her way she is kidnapped, by somebody who's identity is left to the imagination...

I really like this book, it was a little confusing towards the middle. However, I enjoyed the whole mysteriousness of the plot and I really liked the characters. This was my first manga/anime/shojo and I am so glad to say I really enjoyed it! Need to pick up the next one!

I hope you enjoyed this! I really liked trying out something new today. If you have any recommendations, please leave them in the comments or suggest them to me on Goodreads. Thanks for reading and see you next time!

Love ya!

NaNoWriMo

NaNoWriMo 2014?

October 26, 2014

Yes Guys, Rachel is doing NaNoWriMo this year. be proud!

NaNoWriMo =
National Novel Writing Month

So not that long ago I decided that I would do NaNoWriMo 2014. Ever since then, I have been writing and drafting and just preparing in general for writing. The point of NaNoWriMo is to write 50,000 words in the thirty days of November! I know, it is a lot of work but I will be trying especially hard and just overall do my best!
This is my first time, and I will be writing probably a YA contemporary novel for NaNo this year, however I have multiple things planned but I think the one I am gonna choose is the contemporary one... Whatever! I have also enlisted a couple of my friends to join in with me, so hopefully it will be a great experience for us all! (P.S. my book doesn't have a name... so it will be referred to as many names)
It is a charity, so I will be donating, and hopefully posting update videos every now and then. Until then, here is a couple of videos if you are planning to do it. They have really helped me get prepared!

I hope you guys win!!

My Sick Day Essentials!

October 18, 2014

Sorry I have been MIA for a while,
I have been really, really unwell recently. Not like, terminally sick, but feverish and the flu :(
I am still sick, probably the worst I have been, but I would really like to say;
"Thank you so much to those who have wished me well in the past few days, I really appreciate it!"
Anyways, today I have a sick-related post, to go with my sick self!

So, next to my bed, I created a mini "sick basket" including things which will hopefully make me better- or not bored at least!
(Going left to right, like a book)
  1. Strawberry Body Butter, The Body Shop I love this body butter, it is so soft on my skin and makes my feel so good, I can't smell (coz I have a blocked nose, duhh) but I still feel/sense the scent around me.
  2. Caring Kisses Lip Balm, probably the 99p store Just a cheap chapstick to keep my lips moisturized really. No need for a full overview of it, just find a cheap one a put it in there!
  3. Savlon Antiseptic Cream, local pharmaceutical stockist. This is just because I always hurt myself, so I always use this stuff, haha... not funny really.
  4. Random Pencil Tin, I just use this because I tend to get bored when I am sick, and I get very weak and exhausted easily so sometimes it just best to roll over and grab some pencils to write and draw.
  5. ASDA Tissues, I sneeze like a maniac. Seriously. No lie x
  6. Yankee Candle- I ran out of all of mine, this was my mum's, but I used it. I think it was something like Summer fruits.
  7. Fleecy blanket -ESSENTIAL MY LOVELIES! I currently have a tempretaure, so I get hot and cold so quickly, that's why I think its essential.
  8. Book Torch- I take so many naps, then I can never sleep at night, so this is the best thing you'll have for those times you wanna read at 3am x
Time to nap now, hopefully I will blog soon!

52 Week Money Saving Challenge!

October 09, 2014

52 Week Money Saving Challenge!

So....
I am saving money I cannot believe it aaahhh!

So I decided that this year I wanted to start the 52 week saving challenge! I am so excited! I have seen loads of different Youtuber's do it and as far as I know there were successful so I am so, so, so excited, and apprehensive... OMG it feels like I am doing NanoWrimo (but that's a completely different topic).

So the 52 week money saving challenge is basically a yearly saving chart, You save an x amount of money each week, adding £1 or $1 or whatever your currency is to it, (mine is £1) as you go along, starting at the meagre amount of £1 and ending in £52.
So for example;
- Week 1- Save £1- Amount Saved £1
- Week 2- Save £2- Amount Saved £3
- Week 3- Save £3- Amount Saved £6
...
- Week 48- Save £48- Amount Saved £861

This September I started and this reason I didn't post about it was because I wasn't actually sure I wouldn't just quit... I had attempted it in April near my birthday but that ultimately failed by the Summer... oh well!

Using the ingenious idea of triangular numbers someone created a very popular, hyped challenge, sparked across many nations!
Of course I am aware that as it does going along it will be harder to find the money to save, but I am working it out...
I am aware that some people want to save like 50p a week or possibly start in reverse while they are still motivated, which are also both very valid, reasonable ways... but I'm sticking mainly to the regular way.
My current plan is to make and sell some of my D.I.Y.'s for a small amount of profit each. I was selling loom bands and now I am trying to get off in selling crafts like cards, knits, charms... More on that soon!

Anyways, I will update you soon... but see ya for now!
I am leaving you with a video... :)

My Not-So-Technical October TBR

October 07, 2014

So....

Today my title inclines that I will have a TBR, so I guess I will.
You may know this, but I do take out all of my books from a library (maybe one day I will do a shelf tour, but it is mainly children's books I don't want to get rid of)

So these are the books that I currently have at the moment;
Amy and Roger's Epic Detour- Page 182
Animal Farm- Page 15
Usborne True Stories- The First World War
Fangirl

Also got The Ultimate Teen Book Guide out for some recommendations.

I would also like to read;
A Boy Called Hope- Lara Williamson

My Favourite September Bath Products!

October 04, 2014

Hi!
I decided that today I am gonna try a different layout of my photos- what d'you think? I do quite like it compared to the boring photos I do on a regular basis. Please let me know though.

Today I am doing a sort-of favourites video, because I haven't done one in ages!

As it is coming into Autumn, (well actually it is Autumn, and hella cold) I wanted to do a little favourites, aside from my other favourites, about my favourite Wiinter-y Autumn-y bath products which I am using at the moment.
My routines are really lacking variety right now, but these are the Top 3 products I take my hot baths in on the cold nights!

Y The Boots Natural Collection Vanilla Body Scrub, £3.25 (no longer available)
Brighten Up! Indulge your senses with natural vanilla, while this gentle scrub leaves your skin softer, smoother and noticeably brighter.
Honestly, this product is so, so sweet smelling. The formula is a thick yellowy colour with millions, I mean millions- of mini granules and little dublido's. I asked for this for Christmas last year and my sister kindly got it for me along with a couple of other amazing things but this was just awesome! I did feel that it lacked in lathering properties but I completely didn't mind that. In regular showers I tend to reach for my Sanex Shower Gel which is scentless and boring. Recently I have liked it because I can just use it before my shower gel, so I rinse, scrub and then lather! It works out really well, and the scent lingers for the rest of the shower!
I really enjoy using this product but do not use it everyday because that is putting your skin at risk and with most likely make it very, very dry.

Y I love... Banana Split Bubble Bath and Shower Creme £1-£1.50
Simply Irresistible! Feel inspired as my gorgeous combination of warm banana, fluffy vanilla ice cream and sprinkling of melted chocolate create a scent so fabulously delicious it will take your breathe away.
Let me tell you; it took my breathe away! I bought this before I went to France at the beginning of the Summer because of its small packaging. But I say... gosh, this is one of the best bath scents I have ever had! And me being a fan of Lush products... this is totes-amazeballs! (Note to self: never say that again). It genuinely smells so, so, so, so, so, so, SO , SO good! Mmmm *starts to sniff a bottle, looks like an addict*. Honestly, My family loves it, my friends love it... I think because it was so strong (I didn't wear body spray until evening all the time I was in France... it was like 33 degrees), yet it wasn't overpowering or anything, unless you are sniffing it straight out the bottle like me! (I am not an addict, I just sniff the bottle because I really like the scent because I am weirdo)
I use it at home as well, as it doubles as a Bubble bath I just pour it in my bath and watch the bubbles form! It is so great!

Y Imperial Leather Foamburst Luxurious Body Wash £2.00
This luxurious body wash transforms from a smooth gel into an abundance of rich, creamy lather that glides across your skin like silk.Immerse yourself in a delicious heavenly fragrance with this sumptuous vanilla and cherry blossom body wash. Leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth after just one wash. Our expertly crafted blend delivers a unique fragrance burst and a lather so rich and silky it can also be used for shaving....A little luxury goes a long way.
I love this product- the minute that I actually pump it out it oxidises and foams! It is awesome! In terms of lathering it is great and easy, it is really, really foamy . The scent is really good too!  The pump can have a couple of problems some times but I think for the overall price of product it is so worth it! So when you pump it out it is a thin squiggly thing (y'know how toothpaste is? Yeah, like that only thinner and more water-y, I guess) and for a second, you probably see the pure pink form of the body wash before it literally foams up to almost triple its size!
I use this all the time and I only bought it recently!

Feature & Follow Friday! #2

October 03, 2014

Alison Can Read Feature & Follow
This weeks Question:
Book looks – Your favorite fashions from the books you’ve read – Suggested by Go Book Yourself
Errrrmmmm, I like...
Oh! Oh! ooooohhh!! I really like the Heir Of Fire Cover and I have always been one of those girls who thinks she could be like Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty with the right, medieval dress. I love the style of everyone's clothes and it reminds me of a knight in shining armour.
And the I'll Give you the Sun Cover is really beautiful, so beautiful, but I haven't read it yet so I can't say anything about them and their clothing choices, um...
What about you guys' ??
Can't wait to see your replies in the comments!
